Brazilian and Indian Maritime Security Issues differences in influence-building approaches

Emerging powers have often employed diverse strategies to gain influence in their regions. This article explores and compares the maritime regional influence-building pro- cesses spearheaded by Brazil India. We identify geo- political variables that permanence of dis- cursive region-building involve: sustained interaction with coastal states; generation sufficient consciousness/awareness; strategic importance, either geopolitical or economic terms; acceptan- ce proposing state’s claim a leadership role bac- ked power projection capabilities. These concepts are explored contexts South Atlantic Indian Oceans, revealing limits imposed on influence-buil- ding factors.
